‘Bajaj PUC Day’ Observed

Encouraged by the response of the Anti-Tobacco Drive, yet another environment friendly initiative was undertaken to further the objectives of “Paryavaran th Mitra”- observance of “Bajaj PUC Day”( 20 June, 2011).

Vehicular traffic in our cities is hurting the environment by adding to the greenhouse effect, damaging air quality and depleting the ozone layer. Some of the adverse impacts on health include Respiratory Diseases, Cancer- Benzene (linked to leukaemia), Anaemia among many others. Exposure to lead can impair mental function, causing problems with learning and memory.

We are aware that it is mandatory for every automobile to have a PUC check every 6 months failing to do so will attract punitive action.

As such, it was decided that each member of the Bajaj Electricals family all over the country will participate in the “Bajaj PUC Day” event to demonstrate our collective responsibility towards controlling environmental pollution.

Every vehicle owner was required to show the “Pollution Under Control” (“PUC”) certificate of the personal or official vehicle to “Paryavaran Mitra” team failing which he would invite a token penalty. A valid certificate was rewarded with a surprise gift.

Those who did not possess a vehicle could also participate by taking part in a quiz on the theme. Then by location, top three employees at each location were awarded with prizes.
