Monsoon Message: Safety tips for your well-being

Here are some tips to follow to look after your family and personal property

Water related

  • Boil water from a hand pump for 20 minutes before cooling for consumption
  • Cover all water tanks
  • Don’t drink water that has been stored in pots for over 48 hours.
  • Don’t let any water collect in puddles near your house. Spray mosquito repellent sprays in and around the house.

Health related

  • Don’t stay in wet clothes and keep your head and feet always dry.  Keep your feet clean and wear footwear  to avoid contact with filthy water and insects.
  • Wear full sleeved clothes and use mosquito repellent creams and mosquito nets.

Meals related

  • Always wash your hands with soap before meals
  • Cover your food at all times.  Eat freshly cooked food wherever possible.
  • Avoid eating deep fried and heavy meals as well as cold and stale food

Other:

  • Avoid eating cut fruit and vegetables sold in the market. Wash vegetables in lukewarm water with salt
  • Keep your surroundings dry and clean
  • Stay away from people with cold, cough and skin diseases as far as possible

Beware of using water or food that is not clean that could cause a host of diseases.
